SENIOR architectural designer Lucy Hanbidge-Moore has celebrated 20 years with leading property partnership Greenslade Taylor Hunt.
Lucy joined the firm as an assistant surveyor in the development and planning department in January 2002, then a small team based in the Ilminster office.
Technology was limited with one computer shared between three staff and used for the odd e-mail.
The office only had a black and white printer, which meant a trip downstairs every time it was needed and if anything fancier than a monochrome print was required it meant a trek to Taunton to use the colour printer.
Lucy spent most of her day standing at the drawing board and using pencils and pens.
Technology has revolutionised the design process and now computer software, two screens, a mouse and keyboard have replaced the drawing board, although Lucy still enjoys producing hand drawings when a project would benefit from a softer approach.
Initially Lucy’s work was very varied and as well as drawing and design she undertook all sorts of jobs as required by the small team, including measured surveys, viewings, pegging out fields and dealing with planning applications for many agricultural buildings - as well as making lots of tea.
But her role has changed as the department has grown.
She completed a post graduate diploma in surveying and moved with the expanding team to Chard.
The department outgrew its Chard base and moved to the current Taunton office, where a team of more than 20 handle a comprehensive range of development land and planning issues as well as providing a complete range of architectural and design services.
“We can undertake much larger projects now,” said Lucy, whose role has evolved to provide all types of planning drawings for clients.
Michila Wilks RIBA, head of architecture and design, said:“Lucy is such an integral part of the team, producing designs that are sensitive to the context.
"She has a wonderful eye for detail and her hand drawings are simply lovely, she has a real talent and is very much in demand.”
In her spare time Lucy enjoys gardening, crafts, walking and spending time with her family.
