A NETBALL coach at Bridgwater & Taunton College has been named England Netball's Young Volunteer of the Year.

Alisha Gardner was given the prestigious accolade at a ceremony recently and the award highlights  her commitment to the sport and her significant impact within the netball community.

Alisha said: "I am incredibly honoured to have been recognised at a national level, it’s something I never anticipated. It's been an amazing journey, from my early days coaching at BTC to working with England Colleges and volunteering abroad. Every part of it has been enriching and unforgettable."

he Team BTC Netball Coach's journey in netball volunteering began at the age of 14.

Her passion and dedication saw her rapidly ascend to a Level 2 Coach, actively contributing to various netball clubs and even organising charity events.

Her most notable achievement includes her role as Head Coach at Queens Netball Club in Bridgwater, where she has been instrumental in mentoring new coaches, supporting player development, and promoting inclusivity.

Alisha's influence extends beyond coaching, as she's been pivotal in welcoming and encouraging players of all levels to get involved. Her initiatives have not only enhanced participation and engagement within the club but also raised significant funds for charitable causes.

Her commitment is further evidenced by her voluntary contributions to the AoC England Colleges, where she coached young netballers nationwide.

Alisha's efforts were internationally recognised when she volunteered for netball development in Fiji, demonstrating her dedication to spreading her love for the sport globally.

This award displays Alisha's exceptional contributions to netball over the years, reflecting her innovative approach, leadership, and the positive impact she's had on the community. Bridgwater & Taunton College takes immense pride in Alisha's achievements and her role in bolstering the sport's presence both within the college and the broader community.
