The Captains Drive In took place on Saturday at Taunton and Pickeridge Golf Club in good weather and thanks to Jon and his staff the course was in the best condition possible given the amount to rain that has fallen.
Congratulations to the winners Charlie Foster, Miles Skuse, Richard Bond and Brett Baker with a score of 49, and well done to Spencer Turnbull who won the car park space for the year, with the combined distance of drives being 783 yards which his guess was the closest.
The new Mens Captain for this year is Mike Robinson who along with Emma Smith the Lady Captain will be raising money for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance during their time in office.
The Charity got off to a great start thanks to the ladies who organised the Easter Draw which resulted in raising in excess of £500- thank you to everyone who bought a ticket.
The first of the T&P men’s club friendly matches is at Tiverton on Sunday 21st April, and anyone who would like to be considered should add their name to the list on the noticeboard in the changing room for this and the other traditional friendly matches throughout the summer.
The dates for the Captains /Pro challenge will be up on the noticeboard very soon and will be taking place on Friday afternoons through the summer starting at 2pm.
The Captains Away Day is being held this year at Teignmouth Golf Club on Thursday 13th June, further details for which will be posted in the near future.
The Junior Section held an indoor pre-season coaching session last week, run by T&P Head Professional, Jason Avery, that 12 of the juniors attended.
The first hour involved chipping and putting games followed by a one course meal and then a quiz and quick presentation covering some of the Rules of Golf and etiquette on the course. It was a fun and worthwhile event and it is hoped to run another one outdoors once the season has started.
The event also provided the opportunity to present Cooper Baker with his Most Improved Fox Cub of 2023 award. Cooper was unable to attend the Prize Giving in November and therefore his family missed out on a photo opportunity!
There was also another surprise presentation made to Cooper. Bob Evans, a former Senior Section member at T&P, sadly died in 2023 and his wife, Libby, wanted his unused Garmin Distance measuring watch to go to a good home.
The Junior Organisers thought that Cooper would make a worthy recipient of the gift and he was delighted and surprised to receive it. Apparently he had been dropping hints to his parents for weeks!
