A BOXER from Watchet has won the UBBF English title after a second round victory at the weekend in the title fight.
Lucy Payne trains out of Tavern Fitness and Martial Arts Gym in Watchet and is now the English champion.
Her title fight for the UBBF English title was at Blake Hall in Bridgwater on Saturday, April 13.
It was over in the second round when her opponent's corner through in the towel after two powerful liver shots.
Lucy said: "The fight lasted the start of the second round before the opponents corner threw their towel in after I got her on the ropes and consistently hit her with a numerous heavy combinations of shots, ending it with two big blows to the liver, which ended the fight."
In December of last year, Lucy fought for and won the Southern Area title and therefore was moved on to take on this fight for the English title.
Since December, Lucy has been training hard in preparation for this fight but it hasn't been easy she said.
"The training was incredibly disciplined, I give every single ounce of me through both physical and mental training in preparation for every fight, I could not have done anymore," she said.
"However this time it was made more difficult by having quite a bad shoulder injury, so training had to be adapted because of this and I fought with just the front arm."
Next up on the fight list for Lucy is a shot at the British title in her class and will be the biggest fight of her career to date.
Lucy thanked her coaches and sponsors for their help and support throughout her boxing career.
"I need to thank all of my sponsors," she said.
"Kwikstop have been the main sponsor, they have sponsored every fight I have had, Torre Cider Farm, Itzscompltd, Tregenna, Window Woman and Locksmith."
"I would like to thank all of the people who came and supported me throughout my training and on the night and the Tavern family who have made every trip up to watch me.
She added: "I would definitely like to thank my coach Simon Gorman, giving his expertise, time and commitment and making the adaptions to my training due to my injury.
"He was every inch by my side throughout the training and on the night in my corner and I couldn't wish for a better coach!"
