The Somerset Disabled S9 side hosted their Gloucestershire Cricket Foundation counterparts at Ilton on Sunday.
With a bit of cloud cover and after winning the toss, the Somerset captain decided to have a bowl against the reigning champions.
Colin Hancock and Charlie May opened the bowling and it didn’t take long for Charlie to make the break through.
A stunning one handed catch by Toby Jones off of Charlie May bowling sent Lewis Clapp back in the second over.
Colin struck again two overs later to remove Dave Smart with George Fox-Reid taking a nice catch behind the stumps as the visitors slipped to 17 for two.
A great throw from Cameron Harris then removed Henry Polley, shortly after which he bowled Zak Gardner in his first over making it 94 for six.
Paul Sealy and Andy Loud both then scored half centuries as Gloucestershire finished on 177.
When Somerset replied, they lost Charlie May after four balls caught behind off Paul Sealy’s bowling, before Kris Martin was dismissed for 19.
Some big shots from the incoming Cameron Harris who, along with captain Fox-Reid, settled things down and moved the score on, before a small collapse in the batting occurred as Somerset slipped to 82 for eight.
With Toby Jones and Paul Lewis now in the middle and plenty of overs left, the pair worked hard together to keep the board ticking over.
The ninth wicket pair took the total onto 131 before the final two wickets fell and Somerset were all out, leaving Toby Jones unbeaten on 15.
This was a great contest all round and a big one for a new look Somerset S9 team taking on previous S9 champions.
Well done to everyone, this game was played in a good spirit throughout and enjoyed by all.
