TAUNTON and Pickeridge Juniors are continuing with their successful season and were in action again this weekend at Weston-Super-Mare GC in a regional qualifier for The Junior Team Golf Home Nations Championship.
T&P took a team of six players who played individual stroke play against Long Ashton. For each team their best gross score and four best nett scores counted, with the sixth card coming into play in the event of a tie.
T&P were victorious with the score of the day coming from Peter McGivern who went round in 71 gross, and our other four nett scores being 73,73,74 and 74.
T&P Juniors now proceed to the regional semi final at Launceston GC on 30th September with the winners of this going on to the televised England National Final at The Players Golf Club, Bristol in early October.
The T&P Ladies Invitational took place recently which involved 52 entrants. The format was a Betterball with some powerplay holes where double points could be scored.
At the end of the day two pairs returned with 48 points, but following countback the winners were Jan Hill and Stephani Barnes (Honiton) whoi edged ahead of second placed Ali McGown and Nic Boyd (Wheathill).
Two pairs also carded 46 points so once again countback came in to play after which it was Emma Smith and Lynne Veen (Tiverton) who came third, while Jill Paul and Lesley Wills (Tickenham)were fourth.
The Nearest the Pin on Hole 2 wasd won by Lennox Heath, Nearest the Pin on Hole 6 was won by Daphne Priddy (Oake Manor) and Nearest the Pin in two on Hole 14 was won by Ali McGown
Three twos were recoded during the round , Jill Paul on the 8th, whilst Pat Rodgers (Enmore Park) had two on the 2nd and 16th.
Last month, Seniors Captain Frank Kirkham presented the club with a new courtesy box situated in the starters hut by the first tee.
The Seniors section very kindly sponsored and supplied the box after being impressed after visiting another club that had one.
The box will provide players who find themselves in need with a scorecard, pencils and/or pitch mark repairer.
2023 Club Captain Kevin Jackson & 2023 Seniors Captain Frank Kirkham officially opened the box.
