BOXERS from Taunton travelled to Sweden last week to compete at a three day International Box Cup tournament.
Representing Blue Flames Amateur Boxing Club in Taunton, the boxers put on a good show and impressed the foreign audience.
This trip was the culmination of six months hard work, training and fundraising and at the end of the tournament it was well worth it.
The girls worked hard over the last six months to find sponsors, held a cake sale and even held an all female show last month to fund this trip.
Blue Flames took nine boxers, two coaches and a child welfare officer over to Sweden and also two groups of sponsors flew over to support the boxers.
The show was held in Borgas Sweden at the Borashallen Complex and it was a three day Olympic style event where each girl was put into a category and some taking up to two bouts in a day.
A spokesperson from the club said: "All of the boxers performed superbly, win or lose, as a club we are very proud of their efforts."
Jessy Heyburn boxed on day two in a group of seven girls beating her first opponent from Essex. Two hours later she was back in the ring for the semi finals against an opponent from France and boxed well but unfortunately missed out with a split decision loss.
Out of the 9 girls, one was Golden Girls Box Cup winner Taylor Williams and she boxed in the under 57kg category beating a Canadian opponent in the semi finals and an Irish girl in the final.
Taylor cannot be faulted for her performances both bouts went to plan and she listened to her corner and earned two unanimous wins making her Golden girls 2024 champion.
Kayleigh Darcy earnt a silver medal boxing against an opponent from Finland in the finals on Sunday.
She had a game plan for her much taller rangier opponent the first round went smoothly & the next two round were action packed with Kayleigh taking the front foot and driving her opponent back the ropes. It was a fantastic bout with Kayleigh just missing out on a points win but earning a silver medal.
The club added: "We would like to say a massive thank you to the sponsors, Intense Nutrients, Davis & Barret Brickwork & Scaffolding, DS Tiling, G&S Scaffolding Solutions, Paul Martin construction, Jual Clothing, TP Autos, Curry Commercials & Mayas Grandad for your sponsorship & support."
