It is a privilege for me to write this weekly column on behalf of St Giles and also to be a presenter with our local community radio station Tone FM. Tone FM supports St Giles and it was a delight to have Jack Linnell (director) and Gemma (welfare officer) in the studio with me on Sunday. It has been a while since they popped in for a live chat. Edith, the very enthusiastic and pretty spaniel, who was found as a stray, accompanied them. She had been used for breeding, but her luck has changed and she is due to move into her forever home soon. Edith was very noisy and interested in the microphone and has potential to become a sound effect specialist.

Jack and Gemma had a lot to talk about, focusing on the need for fosterers, volunteers (particularly for the office), events – including quizzes , online dog and cat shows, Halloween activity club and lots more: please peruse the ‘Fun and Events’ section on their website and Facebook.

They reiterated what a hard time it is for St Giles. Jack said in his 15 years of involvement in caring for abandoned animals this is the worst period he has experienced. Especially as most of the animals coming into the centre are in need of veterinary help. As you can imagine this is hugely expensive. Could you see your way to helping them out financially by setting up a monthly donation for them? No amount is too small, and would help towards the high costs required to keep this amazing organisation running.

They will be back for The Sunday Breakfast show on 15th December, with another doggie: a date for your diary.

This week Peter the floppy faced “pocket bully” is appealing for his forever home. Found as a stray, he is sweet and playful. He needs more socialisation training and an understanding human who will help him with this. He will need time and patience to help him understand the world. Cat free and a child free home please. Can you help Peter? He is a treasure.
