John Kendall-Carpenter in rugby Hall of Fame
FORMER Wellington School headmaster and England rugby captain John Kendall-Carpenter has been inducted into the International Rugby Board’s Hall of Fame.
Mr Kendall-Carpenter, who died in 1990 shortly before he was due to retire, was chairman of the committee that organised the inaugural Rugby World Cup in New Zealand in 1987.
He won 23 England caps between 1949 and 1954 and was head at Wellington from 1973 to 1990.
He was also president of the RFU, the England Schools RFU and Cornwall.
K-C was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the IRB awards dinner after the recent final, in which New Zealand beat France.
His children, Giles and Diana (pictured), who both live in New Zealand, were presented with a specially framed cap.
