TWO late goals in a lacklustre Somerset Premier Cup tie at with Brislington at Wordsworth Drive on Wednesday night kept Taunton's cup season alive, writes James Wright.

With Khaled Badavi making some probing runs, Taunton generally bossed the opening stages.

Their best chance came when commanding centre-half Ben Gerring moved up for a set piece but headed just over.

Brislington responded when Mark Knapman crashed a pile-driver of a free-kick against the goal frame, and home keeper Matthew Urwin pulled off a number of good saves as the Toolstation League leaders finished the opening half on top.

The second half was largely uneventful until Urwin raced off his line to deny Frank Gingell, then sprawled to keep out another Knapman free-kick.

Against the run of play, Town took the lead 16 minutes from time, Simon Ingram curling a low free-kick through an ineffective wall just six minutes after replacing Tom Hopkins.

The match became increasingly feisty with several players finding their way into referee David Bryant's notebook.

With Brislington pushed up in search of an equaliser, another substitute exploited the space behind their back line to seal the win. James Blake, just on for Lee Smyth, slammed a volley into the roof of the net from a tight angle to hand Leigh Robinson's charges a first victory since September and a place in the quarter-finals of the county cup.
