GALMINGTON'S rich vein of form in Division One of the regional league continued when won by ten points at Plymouth Pilgrims, who are notoriously difficult opponents on their home territory.
Galmington made a superb start with goalkeeper Lauren-Jade Griffiths in magnificent form, allowing Galmington to open up a 12-6 first quarter lead.
Galmington’s defensive unit continued to restrict the Pilgrims’ attack and their own attack took full advantage to extend their lead to 29-15 at half-time.
Plymouth, who had held runaway leaders Aquarians to a draw in their previous match, re-organised and began to force their way back into the game reducing the gap to ten goals at the end of the third period.
They continued to make inroads into the deficit, coming to within seven goals at one point of the final quarter, but Galmington maintained their discipline and withstood the pressure to record an outstanding victory by 48 goals to 38.
In Division Two Trident travelled to play Weston and dominated the match from the outset.
Wing attack Natalia Sexton was in fine form, finding the shooters with unerring accuracy and with Weston unable to cope with goal attack Lucy Low’s movement and shooting accuracy Trident built a 16-7 lead.
The home side came more into the match in the second quarter but Trident still increased their advantage to 30-17 at half-time.
They then played brilliant netball throughout the court to quell any hopes the home side had and recorded a comprehensive 56-27 win to move back into the top half of the table.
Hovelands had two testing matches in the Premier Division of the Somerset league, firstly going to Millfield in midweek.
The initial period ended all square at 13-13 but Hovelands, for whom both Imogen Setter and Danni Cross-Henley were in excellent form, pulled away to lead 31-21 at half-time.
Millfield made changes and worked their way right back into the match reducing the arrears to just one goal going into the final quarter.
However, Hovelands took control again to pull away and went on to win 54-45.
Danni Cross-Henley was again in fine form against Yeovil’s Newton at the Vale on Saturday.
Again the first quarter was close with Hovelands just shading it 13-12.
It was still goal for goal in the next period until Hovelands managed to open a bigger gap to reach half-time 27-21 ahead.
Hovelands then stretched their lead to nine goals at the start of the third quarter only for a resilient Newton team to respond with six straight goals and put the match back in the balance.
However, Hovelands regained control and went into the final period with a healthy 39-30 lead and remained fully focussed to take the points with a splendid 47-38 win.
