HYDRO Harriers may be one of the smallest affiliated running clubs in the country, but this week it’s celebrating having a race winner in its ranks.
Tom Mellor put ignored his disappointment of finishing second last year with victory in the Herepath Half Marathon on Sunday.
Mellor finished the tough off road race in 1hr 34m 31s, over two minutes ahead of his nearest challenger.
Clubmate Chris Perring clocked a very impressive time of 1hr 48m 24s to nab 17th place. There were 124 finishers.
Another Hydro Harrier in action at the weekend was Andy White who clocked 21m 12s in Saturday’s Longrun Meadow 5k Park Run.
White finished 31st out of 288 with son Sam coming third in a time of 18m 10s.
TAUNTON Athletics Club had representatives in both the Exmoor Stagger and Stumble.
In the Stagger first timer Dan Miles got to mile 11 and turned his ankle but did well to finish.
In the Stumble 16-year-old Ben Tull was second in 47m 58s showing most of the field a clean pair of heels. Sixth was Danny Doyle. Consistent Nick Daniels came second in the men’s over-40s in 53m 39s.
First female, and ninth overall, was Kim Hill in 54m 24s.
Jackie Batten was first female veteran over 45 in 1hr 4m 8s while Lesley Westgate followed suit in the over-55 category in 1hr 8m 55s. Suzi Griffiths ran 1hr 18m 23s, taking 12 minutes off last year’s time.
At the Great South Run Lesley Westgate was happy with 1hr 20m 28s in congested and windy conditions.
The Herepath half saw Kim Hill run 1hr 44m 57s and Suzi Griffiths 2hrs 35m 13s.
