KING’S College students continue to excel on the rugby field.
Both First XV captain Zach Spiers and James Turpin have been selected for the Somerset Under-18 county squad while Tom Pittman has been chosen to play for Dorset and Wiltshire Under-16s at fly half.
King’s rugby teams have enjoyed a successful start to their season, with 53% of all games won so far.
The First XV have had some excellent wins over Prior Park, Blundell’s, Colston’s and Bristol Grammar School, while the Junior Colts squad have now progressed through to the fourth round of the national NatWest Under-15 Cup after an outstanding 24-10 victory over Sherborne School.
Three junior players were recently invited to train with Exeter Chiefs’ head coach Rob Baxter as part of a Master Class Programme organised by Westerly BMW.
Zak Higginson, Hugh Ogle and Tom Pittman had a thoroughly enjoyable evening with Baxter, who singled out Pittman as the best overall performer on the evening.
King’s coaching staff have also been undergoing some training in the form of professional development sessions alongside Bath RFC Academy Manager Danny Grewcock.
The former England international visited King’s and spent time discussing the Academy’s coaching philosophy and objectives, and working with coaches to explore more about player development approaches within Premiership rugby.
The First XV were then put through their paces as they demonstrated the skills and techniques that the Bath RFC Academy were looking to promote.
