KING'S College Under-14 girls will be representing the West of England at the national schools finals in February after winning the regional championships at Millfield.
The King’s team played exciting hockey throughout tournament and were justly rewarded for their very gritty and determined efforts.
King’s won their group stage after drawing 0-0 with Bristol Grammar School in the opener followed by a 1-0 victory over Bryanston secured with a goal from Georgia Hallett.
In their final group match they comfortably triumphed over St Mary’s RC School 3-0 thanks to a hat-trick from team captain Beth Barzotelli.
In the quarter-finals King’s drew 1-1 with Cheltenham College, thanks to a second goal of the competition from Hallett, but went through on penalty strokes, courtesy of Barzotelli, Harriet Fox and Eliza Chapple.
In the semi-finals King’s beat Cheltenham Ladies College 2-0, the goals coming from Lilly Chambers and Flora Keeling.
The final saw King’s playing against Blundell’s School from Tiverton, when the only goal of the match was scored by Barzotelli.
Coach Jane Berry said: “The girls have been working very hard at their hockey and have shown great improvements as a result. They work hard for each other and have a great team ethic.”
