SWIMMERS from Taunton School and Queen’s College will be competing in the London Aquatic Centre – home to the swimming events for the London 2012 Olympics – this weekend.
The schools both took teams to the regional swimming relays at Millfield School.
All the Taunton swimmers performed well, with some of them in their first gala of this kind and many achieving personal best times.
The Intermediate Girls and Junior Boys narrowly missed out on qualifications by 0.9sec and 1.8sec respectively.
However, the Senior Girls qualified in both their relays with a particularly impressive performance in the medley relay, swimming against Olympic gold medallist Ruta Meilutyte.
The girls will now compete in the top 20 teams from across the country at the ESSA National Swimming Relay Championships in the Olympic pool.
The hard training put in by Queen’s College girls also enabled them to have a successful day.
Rebecca Wilde, who recently captained Somerset at the inter-county national championships where she finished fourth, was again in outstanding form.
Her team mates Fenella Chamberlain, Tessa Down and Keren Greenow also enjoyed exceptional performances.
