SENIOR Michael Manning broke out of a run of poor form to win the Michaelmas Stableford at Vivary Golf Club in brilliant style recording an awesome 46 points.
He said: “I couldn’t do a thing wrong. The ball went into the hole from all directions.”
Second, trailing some way behind was Chris Stone with a still very respectable 43 points and Dave Beale and Kelvin Davies competed for third place with 40 points each, but Beale had the better back nine.
David Beale also confirmed his steady good form by later taking the Hallowe’en Stableford with 41 points.
Keith Parker was second just one behind on 40 points and a better back nine than Rod Hobson who also scored 40.
Charles Hall’s Winter League has got off to a good start with all scheduled matches played. John Shove and Kelvin Davies currently lead the competition with 163 points with Chris Stone and Brian Davey lying in second on 157.
n AT Oake Manor the course remains in good condition, with the greens playing beautifully.
Results of the men’s weekend Stablefords: November 15 – 1st Terry Davies 42 points, 2nd Darren Marks 39 points, 3rd terry Adam 38 points and 4th Darren Knowling 37 points. November 16 – 1st Rod Sully 40 points, 2nd Kevin Ward 39 points, 3rd Peter Webber JNR 38 points and 4th Mike Everett with 37 points. The Ladies played a fun 1.2.3. Best Ball Bowmaker on Tuesday. Results: 1st Liz Howe, Jill Loader and Di Darlow with 55 points, 2nd Karen Potter, Jeanette Jones and Sheila Grant 51 points and 3rd Jenny Swann, Janet Howe and Ginny Farnworth Smith with 49 points.
The ladies have had a very successful year with their ‘friendly home and away matches. Out of 14 matches against other clubs, mostly fielding teams of ten ladies in a 4 ball better ball format, they won seven, halved three and lost only four. In the Inter Club League Oake Ladies remain in the Division One Premier League for 2015. The Ladies Order of Merit table for 2014 is: 1st Jane Clist, 2nd Janet Howe, 3rd Cathy Sheppard and 4th Ginny Farnworth Smith. The Ladies Summer Eclectic Results for 2014 are: 1st Jane Clist with an excellent nett 59, 2nd Shane Bordier nett 62.5, 3rd Kathy Salway nett 63 and 4th, after countback, Sue Corlett nett 65. Charlotte Bolton also returned a nett 65.
