SIX members of Running Forever Running Club, together with their support crew, travelled to the Brecon Beacons in Wales for the Likeys Brecon Ultra Marathon.
The race, which the organisers describe as ‘a mere 46ish mile mixed trail/mountain/canal/road run around the magnificent Brecon Beacons’, is based at Talybont on Usk.
Weather conditions were good but it was very wet underfoot, leading to slippery conditions.
Michelle Lomax ran very well to finish fourth lady and lead the club home in 58th place, completing the gruelling route in 9hr 37m 18s.
She was followed by Peter Hall (103rd, 11hr 2m 9s) and Adrian Edwards (104th, 11hr 5m 39s).
Eliza Brodie, running further than the marathon distance of 26.2 miles for the first time, Lynn Cunningham and Chris Reah ran together for most of the race to finish 155-157th in 13hr 28m 55s. There were 158 finishers.
Two members visited mid Devon to run in the annual off-road Drogo 10.
Run mostly in the Teign Valley, it is 9.6 miles long, the majority of which is rough and rocky underfoot.
Despite falling twice, Phil Wilson maintained his recent improvement by finishing in 1hr 52m 31s for 390th position, closely followed by Val Perigo (402nd, 1hr 53m 28s). There were 496 finishers.
Further afield, Iain Elliott set a personal best at the Age UK Leeds Abbey Dash 10K road race. In a high quality race Elliott finished 513th out of 9,527 finishers in 37m18s.
Finally, Kevin Willcocks ran the Plymouth 10K recently, finishing 920th in 55m 15s.
FIVE intrepid runners from Taunton AC travelled to Hampshire to the Gosport Half Marathon.
With Phil Burden working as a pacemaker for team mate James Watson, the boys ran 1hr 15m 6s and 1hr 15m 7s respectively to attain yet another best for Watson with the two of them having an outstanding year.
Phil Roberts ran with Dave Purchase from Maiden Newton Runners, both crossing the line in 1hr 23m 59s.
Tatiana Armas, another runner who has gone from strength to strength this year, ran 1hr 45m 55s, taking over a minute off her Cardiff half time just a month ago.
LAST Wednesday four Hydro Harriers competed in the monthly Gate Race, facing some challenging conditions along the 5.2. mile multi-terrain route owing to the recent heavy rainfall.
Braving a flooded section of the route, Chris Jones was first past the post in a PB of 36m 8s. Following him was Chris Hewson in 36m 16s while Chris Perring came third in 37m 59s. Mark Foss completed the field in 38m 43s.
The final handicapped race of the year will be on December 10 where each runners start time will be decided using their average time taken to complete the route over the year ... the plan being that most arrive at the finish line around the same time.
Three Hydro Harriers were in Parkrun action last weekend.
At a wet and muddy Longrun, Chris Jones finished in 12th place from 242 runners in 20m 18s (1st in his age category, VM35-39). Andy White was 20th place in 20m 53s.
Further afield at Valentines, Ilford, Rowland Lyons finished in 115th from 233 runners in 29m 57s.
TAUNTON Running Club had a number of runners in action at the Longrun Meadow parkrun.
Results: Billi Staite 25m 42s, Michael Sharpe 26m 57s, Sharon Davies 29m 40s, Beverley Osborne 32m 40s, John Ward 34m 45s, Nik Matravers 44m 45s In the Cardiff 10k MoRun Mick Drohan timed 58m 41s.
