SWIMMERS from Taunton School and Queen’s College competed in the London 2012 Olympics pool at the weekend – and were in outstanding form.
The girls travelled to the London Aquatics Centre to represent the South-West at the English Schools’ Swimming Association national relay championships.
Competing in the freestyle relay, Taunton came third in their heat to progress to the final where they came tenth.
The girls had high hopes going into the medley relay, having qualified from the regionals in fifth place.
They swam really well in their heat to secure second place, putting them in fifth qualifying position for the final.
The girls then maintained that level to finish fifth in the final – a fine achievement in a line-up which included traditionally strong swimming schools such as Plymouth College, Mount Kelly, Millfield and Guildford High.
Taunton were represented by Francisca Paredes-Tarazona, Lydia Lavallin, Robyn Edwards, Camille De Brandere and Kirstie Manning Joining the Taunton swimmers at the prestigious venue were the Queen’s College senior girls’ swimming team of Fenella Chamberlain, Tessa Down, Rebecca Wilde and Keren Greenow. The girls qualified for the medley relay at Millfield in September to earn a ranking of eighth in the country.
But they still managed to raise their game to come sixth in the final.
