MINEHEAD B beat Wedmore B 8-2 in the North Somerset vets league Minehead produced some very good tennis to beat their hosts by 6 sets to 2 with debutant Jane Thicknesse contributing fully to a deserved win.
In the men’s doubles Andy Fay and Paul Rees proved too strong for the host’s pairing and won 6-1, 6-2.
The ladies match was the only reverse of the day with Maggie Rutty and Thicknesse going down 0-6, 1-6 as they struggled to get used to the very different playing surface of Astroturf – Minehead have only hard courts.
In the mixed, first pair Fay and Rutty outplayed their opponents. They found it hard to close out some games but eventually won 7-5, 6-4.
Rees and Thicknesse similarly won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
