Somerset Rebels 41 v 49 King’s Lynn Stars
League Points: Somerset 0, King’s Lynn 4
THE ‘Cases’ Somerset Rebels hopes of a third successive home win were firmly derailed by a King’s Lynn side who took full advantage of a somewhat depleted Rebels side to record their second league win of the season at the Oaktree Arena, writes Ian Belcher.
King’s Lynn set out their stall from the off with a maximum heat win in the opening race, and never really looked back from thereon in.
Try as they might, the Rebels were never really able to make any inroads into the Stars lead, the visitors generally controlling matters throughout the match.
With Somerset left to play second fiddle for the majority of the first half of the match, they were indebted to recent signing Richard Lawson for keeping them in contention as the Cumbrian won his first three outings.
With King’s Lynn reserve Kai Huckenbeck having an inspired night, however, the Stars had too much in the locker for Somerset to contend with and were deserving winners on the night.
Rebels team manager Garry May said: “We were on the back foot right from the off and when a team like King’s Lynn with their top-end strength get their noses in front, they are always going to be difficult to close down.
“Despite their best efforts the boys, Richard [Lawson] and Josh [Grajczonek] apart, were unable to find any sort of consistency with which we could threaten King’s Lynn, especially with Huckenbeck putting in a match-winning performance for them from reserve.”
“What we need to do now is to re-group ahead of next week’s home match against Leicester as we look for a quick return to winning ways.”
