IT has been a fantastic week for Bathpool as the Keyline Taunton Sunday League came to its climax, writes Dave Whelan.
The defending champions not only retained their title, but also added the Gardener Cup to their trophy cabinet.
Last Wednesday they took on a depleted Hamilton in the final Division 1 match of the season, needing a win to climb above Castlemoat.
It was obvious from the start that there was going to be no other result.
Tom Wadham scored five in the 6-0 win, to finish as the division’s top scorer, and the title was Bathpool’s.
On Sunday Bathpool and Hamilton met again, in the Gardener Cup final.
There was little between them in the first half, but Dan Scadden put Bathpool ahead.
Hamilton turned it around after the break, as an Adam Cook own goal and James Osbourne’s strike made it 2-1.
Bathpool were stunned but far from finished, and levelled with a super strike from Andy Butler.
The winner came in extra time, as Bathpool were awarded a penalty, and Stuart Kennard stepped up to secure the double.
TREBLE: Trophy time for Tiger Old Boys.
Tiger Old Boys went one better and won a great treble, having already sealed the Division 3 title.
Last Wednesday they won the the Mike Stewart Cup, beating Staplegrove 5-0, as the clinical Tigers took their chances while Grove missed theirs.
Carl Jones, Ian Bellinger and Jake Adey all scored one each, and Joe Edgar came off the bench to score two.
Tigers completed the treble on Sunday, as they beat Old Inn 6-2 to win the first Jim Jowett Memorial Cup.
Tigers dominated throughout, scoring early and never letting it slip.
Bellinger scored two, finishing on an unbelievable 99 goals for the season, Jones had to settle for 71, as he scored twice and was later sent off, with Tyne Govier and Cory Mckay also scoring.
Damain Polcynski and Steve Scorse scored for Old Inn.
The league would like to thank Taunton Town FC and Bishops Lydeard FC for hosting the cup finals.
