SOMERSET face being without key batsman Matt Renshaw for the end of the county cricket season, after he was called up for the Australia A squad for their tour of India in August and September.
Renshaw, 22, has been named in both the one-day and four-day squads, with Australia’s tour schedule running from August 17 through to September 11.
He has scored 305 runs in four County Championship matches and 140 in five Royal London-One Day Cup games for Somerset this season.
Somerset director of cricket Andy Hurry said that he is currently looking to confirm when Renshaw would need to depart from the Cooper Associates County Ground, and whether a replacement player would be needed.
Hurry explained: "I'm aware that's he been called up into the Australia A series in India, and at the moment I'm in the process of negotiating with him and his management when his time with us will be completed.
"Once I've got that information clear in my head, then it's a case of making sure we're looking at suitable replacements.
"But what I will say now, is that until I've got all that information, everything else is just speculation.
"So I need to get the facts right, then work out what our plan is and what we need to do."
Hurry also gave an update on injured duo Tom Abell and Jack Leach, who both have finger injuries.
He said that Abell and Leach had had their injuries re-scanned today, and he hoped for an update on their progress within the next 24 hours.
He added that he was hopeful that at least two out of Abell, Tim Groenewald (groin injury) and Craig Overton (hand injury) would be fit to face Nottinghamshire in Somerset's next County Championship match, which begins on Saturday, June 9.
