Somerset County League Premier Division: Mangotfield Utd Res 0, Taunton Blackbrook 1.
A SUPERB defensive displayed earned understrength Blacbrook their first victory since wining promotion to the Premier Division.
They took an early lead and, despite being under the cosh for much of the game, denied Mangotsfield a single clear-cut chance. It was the perfect way to get over their opening day 3-0 defeat at home to Timsbury.
Blackbrook, with five players aged 16 or 17 in their side, started brightly and took the lead after 15 minutes when Alex Pounde raced clear and beat the hosts' keeper.
Mangotsfield enjoyed more possession for the rest of the half but could not break through a determined Blackbrook back line.
It was a smiliar story after the break as Mangotsfield were constantly repelled by Blackbrook, with Nick Bull winning everything in the air.
Blackbrook had opportunities to extend their lead on the break with Pounde and Chris Woon both denied by the hosts keeper after being sent through.
This Saturday, Blackbrook are home to Backwell Reserves in the Premier and Division One KO Cup.
