BGB Southern League Division 1 (S&W): Taunton Town 2, Thatcham Town 0.
TAUNTON Town secured their first home win of the season as two Tom Collett goals saw them to victory against Thatcham.
Following a defeat against Paulton and a draw with Oxford City (see page 156), the Peacocks were keen to secure their first three-point haul of the season at Wordsworth Drive on Bank Holiday Monday.
And they did so thanks to Collett's goals, although they were helped by the first half sending off of Thatcham's Adam Kingsbeer, who received a straight red card for a foul on Chris Slough, with the score goalless.
Taunton's manager Gary Domone said: "We played very well but the sending off obviously helped us.
"I thought it was very harsh as they both seemed to go for the ball as it bounced up and their guy was just a bit late going in.
"But I was very pleased with the way the team are developming. We're a young side but the win showed me they are learning and improving as players at this level."
The hosts dominated the opening period with Darren Stone hitting post and bar, Danny Copeland sending a close-range header over and Collett missing when clean through.
They eventually went in front on the stroke of half time when Stone was hauled down in the area and Collett made no mistake from the spot.
The points were secured ten minutes after the break when Collett netted from close range after a great run from teenager Alex Faux who beat two defenders on the left before squaring.
Taunton: Ian Jones, Ronnie Mowatt, Charlie Welch, Gary Fisher (capt), Scott Thomas, Adam Faux, Darren Stone, Chris Slough, Tom Collett, James Clarke, Danny Copeland. Subs: Alex Faux (for Slough 45), Dan Pepperell (for Stone 75), Martin White, Dan Cockram, Darryl Saunders (for Thomas 72). Att: 176.
TAUNTON are in FA Cup action on Saturday when they travel to face SW Peninsula League side Saltash Utd in the preliminary round which carries £1,000 prizemoney.
Scott Thomas and Chris Slough are injury doubts for the trip.
