BRAGGING rights are at stake at The Rec, Wiveliscombe, on Saturday as the home team take on Wellington in Western Counties (West).
League leaders Wellington start as favourites and enjoyed a thrilling win over St Austell last Saturday, while Wivey sit 12th but will be eager to spring a surprise.
In National 2 South, Taunton Titans have been urged to right last weekend’s wrongs as they look to return to winning ways at Sutton & Epsom on Saturday.
A scrappy 12-6 defeat at Leicester Lions knocked the Titans off top spot and they travel to the capital in third.
Taunton head coach Tony Yapp said: “There was a lot of frustration last weekend but we trained really well on Tuesday night.
“We worked a lot on our tempo and accuracy, which let us down at Leicester.
“The good thing about this league is you never have too long to dwell on a defeat and the boys are determined to put things right on Saturday.”
Sutton & Epsom are new to the league this season having won London & South East Premier last term and sit 13th going into the weekend.
“They had a good win against Bournemouth last weekend and we will have to turn up with a professional attitude,” Yapp said.
“They look a workmanlike team - they may not be blessed with stars, but we know they will work hard and pose a threat.”
Taunton hope to welcome back Ratu Vakalutukali from a stint in America with the Navy but the picture is less clear among the centres.
Tom Popham is a doubt due to illness and both Freddie Fraser and Nick Mason remain absent through injury.
“We will look at it in training on Thursday night and try a few things - we have options,” Yapp said.
