WELLINGTON and Wiveliscombe Rugby Clubs warmed up for Thursday's annual Boxing Day derby, as their Under-18 sides went head-to-head last Saturday.
It was Wiveliscombe Colts who came out on top, 24-12, and it's the Wivey Recreation Ground which hosts the Boxing Day clash.
This ‘friendly’ fixture started in the late 19th century and, aside from a break in the mid-20th century when Wellington played touring sides from the London area, has been carved in stone ever since.
The club's 1st and 2nd XVs are set to battle it out; the 2nds play at Plain Pond in the morning (11am), and the 1st XV game follows at 2.15pm on the Recreation Ground.
Welly won 29-8 in the league meeting at the start of December and sit top of Western Counties West, but Wivey go into the match off the back of a crucial win at Saltash last Saturday.
