Toolstation Western League
Premier Division
Bridgwater Town 2, Wellington AFC 1
BRIDGWATER Town continued their good form while Wellington failed to build on their first win of the season at the weekend, when the near-neighbours met at Fairfax Park on Tuesday night.
The Robins now have two wins and a draw from their last three games, taking them up to eighth in the early Premier Division standings.
Wellington had picked up their first win in almost a year - and the first since Tim Legg succeeded Clive Jones as manager last October - away to Hallen on Saturday.
But the Tangerines came into Tuesday's game with a long injury list, and found themselves down to 10 men shortly before half-time.
Defender Kai Fisher - signed earlier that day - was shown red following an off-the-ball incident at a corner kick, meaning that Bridgwater would have the advantage in the second half, following a goalless first 45 minutes.
Goalkeeper Chandler Hallett excelled as Wellington’s rearguard effort frustrated the hosts until the 64th minute, when Jack Taylor’s cross was headed in by Mark Armstrong.
Conor Bryant - one of several ex-Wellington players in the home team’s ranks - sealed the points with a low shot, before Jason Quick looped in a header for a late consolation goal.
Bridgwater Town: Jake Viney, Ollie Morris, Jordan Greenwood, Mark Armstrong, Jake Horsey, Tom Ellis, Mike Duffy, Sam Towler, Jack Taylor, Archie Sturdy, Adnan Hiroli. Subs (used): Conor Bryant, Dave Thorne, James Cottrill.
Wellington: Chandler Hallett, Josh Champion, Jason Quick, Kai Fisher, Jack Lewis, Ollie Holman, Mason Raymond, Scott Merritt, Miles Quick, George Sinnott, Jesse Howe. Subs (all used): Tim Legg, Max Dyer, Wes Poulsom. Attendance: 262.
This Saturday sees Bridgwater travel away to early league leaders Plymouth Parkway, while Wellington are at home to Roman Glass St George (both 3pm starts).
