THE Taunton St Andrews Cricket Club T10 competition at the Wyvern Club on Saturday got the thumbs-up from everyone involved, writes Richard Walsh.
Four evenly balanced teams took part in the in-house competition, played within Covid guidelines, and gave many of the those involved a first taste of playing on grass this season.
Saints 1st XI captain Lloyd Alley said afterwards: “It was really good and went so much better than we could have imagined.
“There were four really competitive games, every one of which went down to the last over - funnily enough, each game was won by the team chasing!
“It was a brilliant day and probably one of the best inter-club events that we have staged at Saints.”
At the end of the day it was Clapp’s Crusaders who won the T10, beating Alley’s All Stars in the final.
Saturday also saw the Saints welcome back James Regan, to the club where he first played 10 years ago as a 16-year-old when he joined the Somerset Academy.
Regan said: “To be honest it just felt like I was returning home and everyone has been so welcoming.
“The T10 was a brilliant idea and a great way to get a lot of cricketers together playing cricket on the same day on grass before the season started.
“Personally it was nice to get out playing and I scored a couple of 30s before I retired.
“I’m quietly confident about the season for myself and about what I can bring to the club.”
