TAUNTON Rugby Club U12's Vipers have won the U12’s Exeter Chiefs Land Rover Premiership Cup.
There were two tournaments the Taunton juniors played in; one in Bristol and one in Exeter.
The Vipers side emerged triumphant in Exeter having remained unbeaten in their journey to lift the trophy and will now attend the Premiership Final next June.
The youngsters produced some wonderful rugby, putting into practice all they had trained for over the last few years. A powerful display of rucking combined with great ball handling allowed them to flourish in their games.
And for Taunton star Daniel Biccard, who has experienced a frustrating time away from the pitch, it was a memorable experience as his side finally got back to playing.
Biccard, 11, said: “I’m very excited about today. I just love playing rugby and I love the physical contact.
“I want to play when I’m older. My favourite player is Charles Piutau.”
It was an impressive showing from the Vipers who by the end had the team managers of two of the other teams asking for fixtures, highlighting the true values and culture of rugby.
This successful series of nationwide events, now running for nearly two decades and organised by Land Rover has seen more than 100,000 children take part to date, with some realising their dreams of going on to play for Premiership Rugby clubs.
The competition was a fantastic spectacle for those in attendance, with the highly competitive fixtures providing a meaningful platform for youngsters to develop their rugby skills.
There will be an U12 ‘winning’ team at each festival, with the prize being a Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup Trophy and a trip to Twickenham for the Premiership Rugby Final, with the successful U11 team based on their demonstration of the core values of the game during the festival, respect, togetherness, strength of character and composure.
Land Rover has been supporting grassroots rugby in the UK for nearly two decades, through the Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup. Follow the latest Land Rover rugby activity on Twitter @LandRoverRugby #DiscoverRugby
