WELLINGTON Cricket Club is really gearing up for the 2022 season as it works very hard to deliver on many fronts both on and off the field of play and club administrator David Derrick spoke on the subject recently.
"It has been a busy close season with the cornerstone to our activity seeing the square at Wellington Playing Field been dug up and re-laid from Autumn 2021; this will offer us an improved playing surface going forward and our grateful thanks go to our Groundsman Des Campbell who has coordinated and managed this extensive work package from the off.
"A new set of sight screens is due to arrive at the end of April as the Club continues to strategically invest in its infrastructure.
"The work to get ready for action will come thick and fast from now and there is an expectation that ALL club members will get involved in the working parties that will be formed to get match ready.
"Practice sessions have taken place at Taunton School for seniors and at Court Fields School for juniors in the winter and have offered the chance to hone player skill sets ahead of the move to outdoor training and ultimately the return to play."
Outdoor training will start in the week commencing Monday April 11 for both sections at Wellington Cricket Club.
Specific details are available from Club and 1stXI Captain Arron Campbell for seniors and the relevant Team Managers for juniors.
The Club will again be fielding five senior sides and four younger aged teams in 2022 with pre-season matches starting over the weekend of Saturday 9 and Sunday April 10 and will run through to month end.
Senior League games commence on Saturday April 30 and run through until the first weekend of September with Sunday and Midweek fixtures coming along too from the start of May and the middle of June respectively.
Several knockout cup competitions are available too from mid-May.
For the first time the Club will be offering organised cricket for women and girls with 2nd XI Captain Alex Troake taking on the lead coaching role and Zoe Engert as Team
Captain.
