AN impressive 55 from 14 year old Thomas Rew wasn’t quite enough to see Taunton St Andrews to victory in their rain affected match at Lansdown on Saturday afternoon.

In what was reduced to a 20 over contest after being asked to bat the hosts posted 124 for three a total that was built around a third wicket partnership of 81 between George Scott who made 63 off 51 balls and Oskar Kolk who remained unbeaten on 25.

When they replied the Saints found themselves 30 for four before Jacob Hockey (9) and Rew put on 26 for the fifth wicket.

The youngster then added 20 for the sixth wicket with Dan Godfrey before the latter was out for three.

Rew was then joined by Ollie Heard and the pair took the Saints onto 118 when the youngster was out for 55 which he scored off 43 balls with seven fours and one six.

Once Rew went there was little further resistance and the Saints were all out for 126 in 20 overs 18 runs short of their target.

The Second XI continued their successful season when they beat Staplegrove by seven wickets in the Premier Division of the Somerset League.

After being out into bat Grove made 168 for eight from their 40 overs, of which Tom Pantling hit 51 , Toby Bishop 31 and Joe Greenwood 19.

Pick of the hosts bowlers was Tom Bowen who claimed three for 42 from his eight overs, while there were two apiece for Ryan Cleverly and Theo Draper.

When Saints replied they were given a great start by openers Martin Jenkins who made 42 while Kevin Parsons maintained his excellent form with 71, after which ben Mason hit 23 and skipper Jordan Clapp remained unbeaten on 18 as the hosts reacjed 172 for three in 36.4 overs.

In Division Two of the Somerset Cricket League the Saints A XI made the trip to Crewkerne who battig first posted 267 for five from their 40 overs of which opener Tom Briggs hit 118 and Leo James 66. For the Saints Callum Kinnear took two for 42.

When Saints replied they lost Harvey Hewer early one before Jago Barclay and Harry Collins who both made 45 shared a valuable partnership.

Lower in the order Kinnear made 33 in addition to which there were also valuable contributions from Rory Cooper-Smith with 16 and Elliot Warner who made 14 but at the end of their overs Saints finished on 195 for nine.

In Division Six North and West the Saints B XI enjoyed a three wicket victory at home over Wembdon Third XI, who having been asked to bat posted 224 for five the feature of which was 99 from opener Nathan Hawes.

For the Saints Rhys Hockey claimed two for 38 while the evergreen spinner Martin Baldock ended with two for 50.

Mark Davis with 54 and Richard Yarde who made 45 gave the Saints innings a great start before Steve Pimm who made 32 continued the chase.

Jamie Lee with 20 and Rhys Hockey who made 18 carried on the good work but in the end it was skipper Stuart Hockey with an unbeaten 35 who led his side home as they reached 227 for seven off 38.1 overs.
