SOMERSET-based motorcycle racer Damon Smith recorded career best results last weekend in the NG Road Racing Championships.
He and his team travelled across the border into Wales to Pembrey Race Circuit near Llanelli for the next rounds of the Championships.
Smith started the weekend aboard the DS Racing Kawasaki ZX10R with the Friday test day using the new made to measure leathers from RST.
The weather was dry and warm and Smith spent the test sessions gradually reacquainting with the lines and braking markers.
Come the end of the day the bike was set up and Smith posted a lap time which was approximately 0.6 seconds off his previous personal best lap time from last year.
During qualifying in the tricky conditions, Smith posted the 3rd fastest time of the Streetstock 1300cc class just 0.087 seconds behind Tom Winn and 8th overall amongst the more powerful, Powerbike class.
Now to the races, and in Race 1, the track was now fully dry and Smith got a good start and managed to stay ahead of nearest rivals and was embroiled in a race long battle for 2nd place with Ade Walbridge on board his Yamaha R1.
Unfortunately he slid off the last lap leaving Smith to cross the line in 2nd place and earned his second podium of the year.
The following day got underway with another dry race and with with Smith's nearest championship rival starting from the back of the grid due to a non-finish the day prior, it meant he could just ride to the information provided and claim another 2nd place.
After the weekend of racing, Smith said: "The aim this year was to try and get a clean sweep of podiums at a race meeting, something I've not achieved before and in the final race I managed another 2nd place which was an amazing result for me.
"Normally Pembrey has a habit of not being kind to me once leaving me in the local hospital but everything this weekend fell into place this weekend."
He added that he is beyond proud of the achievement.
"I achieved my most successful weekend ever claiming 60 championship points with 3x 2nd places and regaining 2nd place overall in the fight for 2023 Streetstock 1300cc Championship and 3 more trophies to add to the shelf.
"I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my sponsors all of whom make it possible for me to chase the dream."
The next rounds move back to Castle Combe near Chippenham in late July for the second visit to the fast and bumpy Wiltshire circuit.
