National League South: Taunton Town 1-1 Worthing

TAUNTON Town were the better team in their match against Worthing at the weekend in the National League South.

Despite being on top for large parts of the game, a late equaliser from Dylan Morgan was required for the Peacocks to rescue a draw.

The result sees Taunton hold on to 15th place in the league and the goal snapped a 493 minute goal drought in the National League.

A strong crowd turned out at the Somerset Campervan Co Stadium and they made themselves heard throughout the match.

In the first half, Taunton were very much on top and controlled proceedings as they created a number of strong chances.

Just ten minutes in, Jay Foulston played a one two with Lee Lucas but he was unable to get much power on his shot and the Worthing keeper saved.

Shortly after that, the Worthing keeper slipped as he tried to take a kick and Malachi Linton pressed him and stole the ball but was unable to beat the keeper from close range.

In the 24th minute, Dylan Morgan burst forwards and found the overlapping run of Zac Smith to his left, he took a touch inside and forced a save from the keeper.

And then perhaps the chance of the half fell to Joe Guest after a semi-cleared corner sailed into his path and his volley just went narrowly wide.

The away side were able to weather the Taunton storm until the break meaning it was still scoreless going into the second half.

Worthing looked an improve side after the break and they began creating chances for themselves. One in particular shortly after the restart forced a top save from Dan Lavercombe.

The Rebels snatched the lead on 71 minutes, when a Kane Wills corner was met by Greg Luer’s header at the near post which looped over Lavercombe into the net.

Substitutions in Taunton's forward line followed as Ross Stearn and Nick McCootie replaced Nat Jarvis and Linton.

The new duo set out to some quick running and interplay straight away and turned the momentum back into the Peacocks favour.

Town got their rewards on 88 minutes when the ball fell to Morgan just outside the box and after taking a touch inside buried a shot beyond Roco Rees into the top bin.

This goal ending the Peacocks’ 493 minute goal drought in the National League.

The final whistle went shortly after and the score was 1-1. A result both sides seemed disappointed with as there was a scuffle and a disagreement in the centre circle.

Players surrounded the refereeing team and two red cards were shown, one for Nat Jarvis and one for a Worthing substitute.

A frustrating way to end the match for sure. But had Taunton able to make more of their possession and chances it would have most likely been three points for the Peacocks.
