National League South: Taunton Town 0-0 Truro City
NEITHER Taunton Town or Truro City could find a breakthrough in poor weather conditions at Wordsworth Drive on Tuesday (February 6) night.
It was a scrappy battle played in a rain-soaked pitch that stopped both teams from playing any expansive football.
That being said, the match could have gone on for quite some time after the referee blew his whistle and it would have been sometime before a goal came.
There were plenty of familiar faces amongst the Truro team to the Taunton fans as the squad featured former Peacocks Dan Sullivan, Ryan Brett, Rocky Neal and Matt Buse.
There was no love lost though as just five minutes in Sullivan picked up an early yellow for a heavy challenge on Ollie Chamberlain that probably should have been a red.
Shortly after the first half chance came for Taunton as Raby Tabu-Minzamba shot from distance which forced a save from James Hamon but the rebound was cleared.
Taunton had control of the match early on and did keep possession for large periods but were only able to turn that into more half chances.
One came from a Zac Bell long throw which Cam Evans headed towards goal and another came as Nick Grimes got the last touch off a free kick cross but it was parried over the bar.
The pressure continued from the Peacocks and in the 34th minute Chamberlain hit a first-time shot with venom towards Hamon in the Truro goal but it went narrowly wide.
Truro had a few late corners in the first half which resulted in a few close calls but all in all neither side truly looked like scoring in the first 45.
The first big action of the second half was another yellow card for Truro, this time for Will Dean after a nasty challenge on Tabu-Minzamba.
The visitors looked an improved side in the second period though as they controlled more of the play. They had a similar issue to Taunton in the first half though as turning possession into chances seemed difficult.
In the 67th minute Ollie Bray slipped past the back line and was brought down by Dan Ball who was penalised and booked.
The first Taunton came 73 minutes in when Ross Stearn replaced Nat Jarvis who had put in a good shift up front. Louie Slough and Evander Grubb replaced Tabu-Minzamba and Chamberlain soon after.
The subs were unable to make a real impact though as Taunton and Truro both seemed happy with a point.
The result leaves the Peacocks one space above the relegation places and five points clear. Whether or not the point in this match will help them at the end of the season remains unclear but perhaps chasing the game for a win, especially at home, could have been more beneficial.
