Somerset Division One: Westfield 1-1 Minehead AFC
MINEHEAD took the lead within the first five minutes, Guy Burns competently beating the keeper after a perfect assist from Toby Waghorn, and continued to play noticeably the better football, but without capitalising on their advantage Westfield started to grow into the game.
The hosts equalised on the hour when a defensive header back to his keeper by teenager Bertie Harvey-Larmar evaded Vinnie Jones, who had already come off the goal-line to collect the ball. The ball then bounced a few times before agonisingly reaching the empty net.
Westfield, seeking only their second victory since September, pushed hard for a winner but Minehead, with several youngsters on display, held out for a point.
Minehead: Adam “Vinnie” Jones, Bertie Harvey-Larmar, Charlie Purvis, Luke Badcock, Ryan Wilkins, Dan Vickers, Stefan Phillips, Toby Waghorn, Louis Burge, Guy Burns, Alfie Lyons
Subs: Lewis Goodrum (Used)
This Saturday Minehead again travel towards Bath to play Saltford, who are currently in third position with a chance of promotion. Minehead have slipped to tenth place and would be 10 points off the promotion places should they manage to recapture their form and win at Saltford, with ten games left to play.
