A CLUB has introduced Street to a new sport.
The Tor Pickleball Club has launched Pickleball – a mixture of tennis, badminton, and table tennis.
A member of the club said: “Pickleball has come to Street. If you’re not a lover of pickles, don’t worry – it doesn’t actually involve eating.
"Pickleball is a mixture of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. “It can be played by singles or, more commonly, by doubles.
“The aim of the game is to get the ball over the net and prevent your opponents from hitting it back.
“Players use hard paddles, a little bigger than table tennis bats, and a light plastic ball to play.
“Gratefully hosted by Millfield School, the Tor Pickleball Club has been set up by Janine Denison, Sarah Orchard, Claire Davis, and Lana Heath.
“They organised a launch evening on March 1 and were joined by Councillor Bryan Knickerbocker who participated in the fun.
“Bryan did warn of his competitive nature, which became immediately apparent on the court.
“So much so, that Tor Pickleball Club has adopted the grizzly bear as their mascot.
“There are currently around 7,000 players of pickleball in the UK and it’s hoped that it may become a future Olympic sport.
“Further information can be found on the Pickleball England website.”
