If football is a rollercoaster, Yeovil Town have endured some of the most severe peaks and troughs humanly possible over the past two decades.
From the glory days under Gary Johnson, winning promotion to the Football League and, unbelievably, progressing all the way to the Championship in 2013, the club has faced a steady and painful decline over the past ten years.
The Glovers have faced crisis after crisis, on and off the pitch, culminating in relegation to the sixth tier last year. Things could only get better and, under the guidance of owner Martin Hellier and manager Mark Cooper, Yeovil Town are on the rise again.
The 2-0 victory at Truro City on Thursday night confirmed their status as champions and the club is planning a party for the visit of Dartford tomorrow.
Cooper said: “Promotion was the only outcome from last year, with what happened and what we had to go through. It was so important that we bounced back.
“The owner has given us that opportunity to sign some good players and to rebuild the football club. It’s just a great night for everyone and I’m so pleased for the players and the staff. It’s been amazing, the fans are top drawer, it means the world.
“We don’t moan about injuries, even though we’ve had some horrendous ones. We risked a couple but the players controlled the game. These nights are what football is all about.
“It was incredible scenes at the end and the fans deserve that. They’ve been through so much in the last decade. That one is for them and the owner. I want to win on Saturday in front of a packed Huish, so get down there and we can have a party.”
Congratulations to Yeovil Town!
