Minehead Cricket Club’s 1st XI lost to Yeovil CC by 10 wickets in the West of England Premier Cricket League this weekend after only managing 57 runs.
It was the first match after promotion from the County League for Minehead and they were looking steady for all of three overs until things started to unravel for The Pirates.
Andrew Stevens was run out by Sam Fuller for two runs after taking unnecessary risks in the third over and opening partner Gregg Howard fell just four balls later, again to Fuller but this time via lbw.
The opening pair were followed quickly into the changing rooms by number three batsman Ian Buchanan, his five-ball cameo saw him hit two runs before being dismissed by Fuller just three balls after Howard, putting Minehead at 16-3 after just five overs.
In the following five Jonah Hopkins, Dan Bowditch and Ellis Taylor all fell for single digit scores, putting Darren Sherring at the crease in the ninth.
Sherring went on to hit a team-high 20 runs off 14 balls, giving at least something for Yeovil to chase, but after he was removed in the 15th over Minehead’s innings was effectively over with the remaining batsmen only able to add three more runs before being removed.
After Minehead were bowled out for their 57 Yeovil went about their run chase, and opening pair Ford and Chacko were in no mood to wait around.
Two sixes and seven fours later and Yeovil had bettered Minehead’s run total in just 4.5 overs, handing a tough 10-wicket loss to the Pirates in their first game of the season.
