TAUNTON Rugby Club have celebrated a first as a mother and son both made their debuts for Somerset – in the same weekend.
Fiona Mossman was called up to represent her county against Hertfordshire in Taunton, and her son Jarryd played for the under 17s in an away clash with Cornwall.
Jarryd and his teammates came away with an impressive 32-15 win, while the ladies' team fell to a 5-60 defeat in their Gill Burns County Championship opener.
A club spokesperson said: “This weekend Taunton Rugby had a club first when mother and son both played for Somerset in their first games.
“Congratulations Fiona Mossman, who represented the ladies, and Jarryd Mossman who represented the under 17s.”
In a match report on the Somerset RFU Facebook page, the county said: “A fantastic victory from our under 17 squad on the road against Cornwall RFU yesterday.
“On a very sunny and warm day the lads came away with a fantastic 32-15 win.
“A great start to the campaign for the season with plenty to build on in their upcoming games over the next few weeks. Congratulations, lads.”
