Minehead CC continued on their mission to find form this season as they took on North Petherton at home this weekend, but they lost by 59 runs after only managing 98 with the bat.

The Pirates’ have struggled to reach big run scores this season and the game against Petherton was no different as four of their men were bowled out for ducks in pursuit of the away team’s 157.

Minehead opened the bowling and Dan Bowditch led the way.

He took 4-15 runs from his eight overs, dismissing both of Petherton’s opening batsmen as well as both tailenders to finish their innings in the 44th over at 157.

Braden Taylor added 2-8 during his efficient three over spell, including removing Oliver Curran for nought, and Dan Sherring got two more from his ten overs.

Liam Goodrum added the final wicket for Minehead as they bowled North Petherton out for 157 in the 44th over and looked they could be on the way to their first league win, but the cricketing gods had other ideas.

All-rounder Sherring, 25 runs, and wicket keeper Gregg Howard, 10, opened the batting for the home side and took their team to 36 runs before Sherring’s dismissal brought on a batting collapse for the ages.

At 36-1 and looking comfortable Ian Buchanan, Taylor, Bowditch, and Charlie Payne were all bowled for ducks as Minehead were skittled to 39-6 midway through the 13th over.

The spree of fallen wickets sapped the strength out of the Minehead squad as the tailenders tried to claw back at Petherton’s run rate.

Harry Tudball hit eight runs, Ellis Taylor 19, and Goodrum hit 11 but it wouldn’t be enough as Minehead were bowled out for 98 runs after 33 overs and consigned to the 59-run defeat.

Minehead no go on to face Temple Cloud away on June 1st.
