BIG hitting Will Smeed has signed a new white ball only contract with Somerset, while  another former Academy player, Lewis Goldsworthy is heading out on loan to Leicestershire.

Smeed, 22, made his T20 debut 2020, scoring 82 in his second match. Since then, he has developed into an explosive opening batter and played for different franchises around the World and the Birmingham Phoenix in "The Hundred”.

In his 52 T20 matches for Somerset to date, Will has scored 1409 runs at an average of 28.75 with 10 scores in excess of 50 and a best of 98.

Will’s new contact  will see him remain at Taunton until at least the end of the 2026 season.

Goldsworthy is a 23-year-old right-handed batter and left-arm spin bowler who made his Somerset T20 debut 2020 and his First Class and List 'A' debuts in 2021.

He enjoyed his best season to date in 2022 scoring over 500 First Class runs, including his maiden century and, also, his first List 'A' century.

Last summer, he only played in two championship matches, but he did score his second century, and five One Day Cup fixtures.

Lewis, who hails from Cornwall, has been limited to Second XI cricket in 2024 and is out contract at the end of this season.
