Three junior members from Taunton and Pickeridge Golf Club, Ben Newman, Alfie Sully and George Hutchings, took part in a second-round Knock Out competition at Mendip last Sunday in the Somerset Junior Golf Knock Out tournament.
This is an individual matchplay competition on 100 per cent of course handicap with a sudden death play-off in the event of any match being tied.
In glorious sunny conditions, T&P were beaten 2-1 by Mendip and so, sadly, do not proceed to the next round.
Both Ben and Alfie were giving quite a few shots to the home players and lost their matches while George was receiving shots and managed to win his match.
Well done to all three for showing great sportsmanship and for giving up their time to play for the club.
The T&P Junior Section is one of the best in the county, with a strong structure that allows new beginners to have fun and progress through the levels to get onto the course and achieve the ultimate goal of gaining their first handicap.
Thanks to Ali Williams and the volunteers, we have in excess of 50 juniors currently, which is fantastic.
However, T&P would like to offer their existing and new potential juniors even more opportunities, but to enable this to happen they are asking for the help of their members to raise further funds.
With this in mind, the Junior Organisers, Jan Hill and Berni Hatcher, have set up a 100 Club with a fantastic prize being given out every two months.
Those who sign up pay £10 for a number for the year and each time the draw is made if you are the lucky number, you win the prize.
If we can sell all 100 squares, this will result in the junior section receiving over £500.
The T&P Ladies Section will be hosting an Ascot-themed afternoon tea on the 18th June and the Mixed Open on June 30.
The ladies played their qualifying round for the R&A Coronation Foursomes recently.
The winning team, who will go forward to the regional final at Henbury Golf Club, Bristol, in July was Rosie Spragg and Louise Worth, with an impressive 42 points.
The ladies played the last of their three competitions to determine who would represent the section in the T&P ProAm.
The player with the best aggregate score from two of the three rounds in each division will go forward plus a “wildcard” drawn at random.
The winners will be announced shortly.
The T&P Seniors have had two seniors' friendly away games recently, both of which have been won.
The first one was at the Isle of Wedmore which resulted in a 4-2 win, followed by a match at Long Sutton that T&P also won 3.5-2.5.
