TAUNTON Youth Bowling Club held its first-ever club championship at the end of May, with trophies presented to the winners on June 1.
The competition was held over two sessions, with six games played in total.
Eleven club members took to the lanes and there were some good scores in the first week with Daniel leading the way, scoring 184 and 182, while Olivia got a new PB of 152.
The second week was much tougher with lower scores recorded. Jack made the best of the conditions with a 417 series.
The prize winners were:
1st place: Olivia with a score of 1,095 pins
2nd place: Daniel with a score of 1,075 pins
3rd place: Jack with a score of 1,048 pins
Daniel won the High Game Handicap award, and Oliver won the Most Sporting Bowler prize.
Secretary Nick Causer said: “The club was established around 28 years ago.
“We bowl at the Hollywood Bowl in Taunton. Our President Marcus Davey is our longest-serving member; he's been part of the club for at least 25 years and still enjoys helping and coaching our young bowlers, as do I.
“I have been secretary for nine years. We are a small rural club, currently with 13 members. Like many, we did struggle as a result of Covid, but I now feel we are as strong as ever.
“We only bowl a small amount of tournaments throughout the year, the South of England Youth Open being the main one. We bowl many fun bowls throughout the year, occasionally shared with one of our YBC friends, Rhondda Bowl YBC, Stroud YBC.
We do not currently have a sponsor, however, the recent upgrade in our bowling shirts did have a generous benefactor. They're very smart, supplied by Mint Sportswear.”
