Taunton RFC has appointed Damian Welch as the new forwards coach.
Welch comes to Veritas Park following a distinguished career in leading rugby teams in England and Wales.
His most recent role was as head coach at Exeter University, a National Two West opponent for Taunton next season.
Born in Reading, the 41-year-old pack leader caught the rugby bug at Cardiff University, making a name for himself in the university's first team.
His strong performances soon caught the attention of Exeter Chiefs' Rob Baxter, leading to a successful stint at the Premiership club.
Welch then took up a position at Plymouth Albion as head coach, with a specific focus on forwards and defence.
His wealth of experience and strategic insight from both playing and coaching roles will undoubtedly benefit Taunton RFC.
When asked about the recent move, Welch said: "Taunton RFC is somewhere I’ve long admired.
"The facilities, the playing standards, the ethos, the ground, the warmth, the atmosphere… When the opportunity came up it made a lot of sense really."
Indeed, the appointment marks an exciting new chapter for both Welch and Taunton RFC.
