Both the Muskets and the Pistols returned to South West and Wales Baseball League competition this weekend, winning a collective three out of four games.

After a week's break to watch the professional teams, the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies, at the London Stadium, the Muskets hosted the Bristol Brunels of the Severn division at Taunton Green while the Pistols went to Truro to tackle the Cornish Pioneers.

The recent spate of wet weather subsided, allowing the Muskets to put on a show at the Taunton Green.

Facing a well-prepared Bristol team, standing second in the Severn division, the Muskets pulled off a spectacular performance.

The first game saw Andres Bianco tally nine strikeouts and concede just a single hit from the mound.

All nine Muskets reached base, making for a resounding 13-0 victory.

In the second game, the Muskets recovered from an early setback, resulting in an 8-4 win, with timely hits from Gemma O’Toole and Al Troake breaking the game wide open and Troake's strong pitching performance wrapping up the sweep.

Meanwhile, the Pistols took on the Pioneers in Cornwall.

The match, which was evenly balanced, ended up in a split double header.

Despite the Pistols leading early, a late rally by the home side clinched the match at 15-14 in the final inning.

Game two followed a similar pattern, but this time, the Pistols managed to chalk up some insurance runs towards the end and took the game 22-15, on the back of rookie João Serrano's strong pitching.

Jake Palmer, Musket's manager said: "A great display across the two games today, everyone contributed and we never let our heads drop after a couple of errors.

"We closed out the second game very professionally, it was great to see."

Rewarding their winning performances, Connor Colman received the Tricky Cider MVP award for the Muskets while Dan Brown bagged the honour for the Pistols.

Mr Colman played two solid games against Bristol, with two hits and an RBI to his name and a match-winning catch in game two.

On the other hand, Mr Brown shone in Cornwall, scoring four runs, making seven steals and leading the team in the absence of a few key players.

Alongside the on-field success, Taunton Baseball Club had reason to celebrate off the field too.

Generous fans Erik In’t Veld and Rene donated a trunk full of equipment, including youth bats and new bases, to the club.

Next weekend, both teams hit the road.

The Muskets venture to Bournemouth to face off against the Bears and the Pistols make a second consecutive trip to Cornwall, this time to take on the division leading Claycutters.
