Minehead CC visited Frome this weekend and bowled the home team out just short of the needed target to win the game by three runs and claim their first win of the 2024 season.
After The Pirates only managed 127 runs with the bat they put on a phenomenal bowling performance, limiting Frome's run rate until Braden Taylor stepped up to take their 10th wicket with just three runs needed and five overs still to play.
Opener Dan Sherring hit a quick 19 runs before being dismissed in the seventh over whilst partner Andrew Stevens lasted until the 28th over, hitting a controlled 22 runs off 73 balls before being caught with his team at 89-6 having seen five of his partners fall in front of him.
After Stevens' dismissal in the 28th Minehead wickets started to fall until Robert Spiers came in late to hit 18 and help push his team’s total to 127 runs before the last wicket fell at the end of the 45th over.
Frome came into bat only needing 2.5 runs an over but Minehead’s bowling attack were determined to keep them at bay, and they managed even more than that.
Taylor, 4-15 from 8.5 overs, and Ananthapadmanabhan Rajan, 0-12 from two, opened for The Pirates and Taylor soon had his first wicket of the day in the 3rd over to put Frome on 8-1.
Taylor and Rajan then gave way to Spiers and Sherring, with the former securing his one wicket in the 11th to make his for the day 1-19 from his three overs and put Frome at 42-2.
Dan Bowditch, 1-12 from 10, then stepped up in the 18th to take a wicket maiden with his second over, and from here Minhead were excellent.
Jack Richards came into take his 3-29 from 10 overs whilst Bowditch proceeded to conceded just 11 more runs during his spell to take Frome from 74-3 to 108-6 in the 35th over.
Sherring joined the attack late on and took his wicket in the 38th, opening the door for Taylor to attack with a trio of wickets, two of them in the 40th over and Frome's final wicket in the 44th to bowl them out for 124, with the pair allowing just 16 runs between them.
Minhead’s brilliant bowling meant they secured Frome’s final wicket just in time, and snatched themselves a three run victory and claiming their first league win of the season.
