Western Storm condemned Sunrisers to the wooden spoon in the Charlotte Edwards Cup.

The away side were inspired by a stellar performance from England skipper Heather Knight, scoring 66, who is well in-form ahead of the series with New Zealand.

Storm toppled Sunrisers 142/7 to 131/9 in a thrilling cricket match at Cloud County Ground, Chelmsford on Saturday.

Knight's 74-run stand with 20-year-old Emma Corney, who also made a cup best of 46, put Storm on track.

Western Storm's victory was marked with Blaze loanee Sophie Munro notching four for 23 runs, highlighting her impressive form.

Sunrisers put up a tough fight with Grace Scrivens and Jo Gardner coming off to a speedy start but fell 11 runs short at the finish.

Despite their mighty effort, this score placed the Sunrisers as the bottom-placed team for the fourth consecutive year of the Charlotte Edwards Cup.

Storm's young and talented batter Emma Corney played an instrumental role in this victory.

Western Storm utilised Corney's skills to facilitate scoring quick runs at the other end.

Cricket fans got to enjoy her talent as she confidently ticked along runs that helped maintain Storm's lead.

Sunrisers captain Grace Scrivens admitted disappointment, saying: "It is disappointing, we wanted to end with a win."

Yet, she acknowledged their positive bowling performance and praised Sophie Munro for her exceptional game.

Heather Knight, expressing satisfaction with her and the team's performance, said: "It was really pleasing.

"I obviously haven’t played the whole competition, but I think we just needed a win to be honest."

Knight also praised Emma Corney's talent, sharing that: "Corney’s a young player and she’s got a lot of talent, she’s someone who is still working out her t20 game a little bit, but the base lines are there."

Talking about her own form, she said: "I feel in really good nick, and I feel like I’m hitting the ball well.

"You can’t beat time in the middle so nice to get a couple of knocks."

Storm's victory marked an end to their competition journey on a victorious and positive note.
