Taunton Town FC have made it to the Final of the Somerset Premier Cup that was held over from last season.
The development comes after Larkhall Athletic, the Batch based side that were meant to play in next month’s Semi-Final against Taunton, have announced their withdrawal from the competition.
Taunton will now play Western league side Brislington after their intended Semi-Final opponents, Weston-super-Mare AFC also pulled out of the rearranged cup fixture.
The Final of the Somerset Premier Cup for the 2023-24 season will now be held at Twerton Park, the home of Bath City FC, on July 31st, kick-off 7.45pm.
Despite their semi-final bye The Peacocks have not had an easy cup run and have held their nerve to win two penalty shoot outs on their way through to the final.
In the first round they took on Western League Division One champions Portishead Town.
Despite sitting lower in the football league positionings, Portishead were formidable opponents having reached 99 points from 42 league games during the 2023/24 season, but Taunton were dominant in a 5-2 win.
They then saw a 2-2 game with Street FC go all the way to penalties after 120 minutes, a shoot out they won 4-3 to send themselves into the quarter finals.
In the Quarter-Final Taunton took on rivals Bridgwater in a tightly contested derby that once again went to penalties as the teams ended extra time at 1-1.
The Peacocks won 5-4 on penalties and sent themselves into the Semi-Final where they were scheduled to face Larkhall Athletic, a game that got postponed multiple times until this week’s announcements.
Taunton Town will now play Brislington in the Final on July 31st, hoping to collect both their last trophy of last season and their first trophy of the upcoming one.
