Haydn Welch from Taunton Deane Swimming Club picked up his first medal in 50 years.
The 66-year-old, who is a member of the Masters section, secured third place in the 64 to 69 age group at the 2km River Lee Swim in Cork, Ireland on Saturday, July 6.
He completed the swim, which forms part of Cork Distance Week, in 35 minutes and 27 seconds, with the water temperature a brisk 12 degrees.
Not as chilly as his ice mile in 1994, however, with the seasoned swimmer swimming the English Channel backstroke in 3.7 degree water, taking 17 hours and two minutes.
