The final of the Fullstop Fire and Security sponsored Taunton and District Youth Cricket Under 13 Cup, between Taunton and Taunton St Andrews, took place recently at Trull CC.

Saints batted first and made a useful start thanks to Will Selway, who made 2.

However, in the sixth over, things changed when Xander Hingley took three wickets, reducing Saints to 27 for four.

Jinesh Ashok then led the rebuild of the innings before he retired out for 32 runs.

After which, some good hitting late on took Saints to a total of 113 for eight.

Hingley was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with three for 10.

Taunton started slowly but built momentum and by the 10th over were just ahead of the Saints score thanks to Alba Davidson, who made 22 runs.

With 26 runs needed from the last 18 balls, Joe McGill then took over and his 21 not out took Taunton to 113 for six off the last ball.

For Saints, it was James Freeman who was the pick of the bowlers, taking four for 11.

At the end of what was an extremely tight game, the rule book was examined and Taunton were declared winners having lost fewer wickets.

This was a great final between two accomplished teams, and thanks as ever must go to Derek Hicks for his umpiring.
